Newsflash | LinkedIn Changes it’s Privacy Settings – You Must Opt Out

August 12, 2011 — Leave a comment
As you may have already heard LinkedIn has opted users IN to their social advertising program.  Your picture and/or name may appear along with 3rd party advertisements, companies you follow, etc.
Here is a screen capture from LinkedIn’s website:

Here is the procedure on how to opt out (A big thanks to The Marketing Pilgrim for providing these instructions):

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on Account
  3. Click on Manage Social Advertising
  4. Uncheck the box what was checked in by LinkedIn on your behalf.

We think of LinkedIn as a trusted social network.  What do you think of this Facebook-like privacy change?  Do you think they learned their lesson due to all the backlash?
On one hand, I understand LinkedIn needs to make money, but a move like this is costly to their reputation as well.
