The best advice I can give you about how to be successful on social media is to be yourself. If you’re an introvert at heart, don’t try and be an extrovert. If you don’t like huge networking parties, don’t join live streaming platforms where you have to interact with people consistently.
I’m not saying you should completely disregard certain platforms. Instead, start with the ones you’re most comfortable first and build from there. Personally, I don’t like to be in front of a camera – I’ll do it – but I don’t like it, it’s not natural to me. I started off with Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. I’ve dabbled with Periscope and Facebook Live but I still feel most comfortable with the other ones.
Also, if you’re shy at heart, don’t try and be outgoing online. Trust me, it shows. The social community isn’t easily fooled – and they can be harsh. Just be yourself – you’ll find your “home” online with like-minded people, I promise.
All in all, just be yourself online. I’m quirky, quiet (people don’t believe me) and shy. Instead of thinking these traits as bad things, I’m embracing them. They’ve worked for me in the past!
