#ClioCloud9: The Best Law Conference I’ve Attended To Date

I just got home from my first Clio Cloud Conference, and it was – by far – the best conference I’ve attended to date. Here’s three reasons why #ClioCloud9 rocked.

Meeting My Online Friends Offline

The best part of this conference was meeting my Twitter friends in real life. I’ve been tweeting with some of them since 2010.

I met with Seth PriceKevin O’Keefe, Bob Ambrogi, Patrick Palace, David Leary, Laurence Colletti and many, many more. I also met members of #TeamClio including Jack Newton, Lauren Sanders, and Derek Bolen. Finally, I met with Kenneth Watkins who said he’d been reading my blog for years – talk about a compliment!

I learned that I’m known for my coffee obsession, my children and my long walks on the Vancouver seawall. My branding strategy is working! Kidding, sort of…

Meeting #ClioCloud9 Keynote Speaker Gary Vaynerchuk

Gary Vaynerchuk is a well-known entrepreneur, investor, author, public speaker and Internet personality. If you haven’t heard of #GaryVee before, I suggest you Google him. One of your top search results will include an article titled, Is Gary Vaynerchuk real?, by Forbes. Here’s my favourite paragraph:

And then there was Gary Vaynerchuk. When ABC’s host Chris Harrison (of Bachelor fame) introduced him—“an entrepreneur, author, and social media master”—Vaynerchuk held up his phone and mimed the act of taking a selfie. It was a perfect (and perfectly predictable) joke at his own expense. Vaynerchuk has created two successful companies; he is a bestselling author; he can command six-figure fees for speaking engagements; and he has 1.1 million Twitter followers.

His keynote was epic and the attendees loved him. Click here to watch a short video I recorded during his talk. Because I’m a social media nerd, I was live tweeting during his talk. These were the most popular tweets during Gary’s talk:

My Social Media for Law Firms Presentation

Clio is known for their annual conference. They want their attendees to have fun while learning, and they’ve done a terrific job. Nobody hides in their hotel room and all the sessions are full. Their evening events are spectacular, and their morning “hangover tables” are famous.

Clio asked me to present earlier this year and I was super excited! Instead of the usual “how to set up a Facebook account” presentation, I shared examples of how my clients got work through social media. We discussed why reputation management shouldn’t be the reason you don’t use social media.- if you aren’t using social media to control your online image, somebody else is. I’m going to share my full presentation in another blog post.

In conclusion, I’m a diehard Clio fan and I’ll be attending all of their upcoming conferences. Their 2017 conference is being held in New Orleans, I hope to see you there!
