Happy Holidays! I hope you’re enjoying the holidays with your friends and family. I’ve been trying to stay offline as much as possible and it’s been a nice break. Except for the random earthquake last night in Vancouver, it’s been pretty calm.
Most of you know I’m a tad obsessed with keeping gurus honest when it comes to social media (services, expectations, goals, etc.). After watching a few blabs yesterday, I became disenchanted with the way people sell social media. Realistically, as Lawyers, I know you won’t be fooled by these sorts but I still wanted to share the following five social media tips.
5 Common Sense Social Media Tips
1. Please don’t hire a social media specialist that uses the following words: passionate, brand recognition, and/or non-monetary goals.
3. Ask for references and set expectations when hiring social media help. Do it yourself or in-house if possible.
4. Social media marketing is a lot of work. It’s not glamorous, it doesn’t make you famous and it takes dedication.
5. Social media is just like traditional media. Working in the marketing department at @MBMiplaw taught me everything I needed. There isn’t an accredited social media degree. The best way to learn is to start using it every day. I used to get up at 4 am and read/tweet/comment for two hours before my “paid” job.
