How To Make it Past My Chopping Block Folder

What are your favorite blogs to read?
My Google reader has over 300 blogs at any given time. I separate them into different folders, one of them called the chopping block. (evil laugh)
The chopping block folder is the first place a new blog subscription lands. I read over these new blogs to see if they have personality, an opinion, something that grabs my attention.
  • Who is writing this blog?
  • Why are they writing it?
  • What do they have to say?
  • Are they selling me something?
  • Are they interested in their readers?
  • Are they passionate about their subject?

Blogs must answer the above questions to make it past my ax.
It’s hard to stand out from the pack when starting out in the blogging world but it can be done. If you’re interested in starting a blog the first step is to read as many as you can. See which ones grab you by the seat of your pants and keep you interested aka engaged.
A good blog will inspire you to start blogging yourself. A good blog allows for comments! Remember that please.
Here’s a video by Social Media Today about having a personality online. I think it’s important to keep this in mind so you’re not just another “voice”.
